Description
Walking through the east side of Boston Common early this Spring, I passed the Rotunda. I usually pass this landmark, always enjoying it and the beauty in it's surroundings but I never gave it that much thought.
I don't know whether it was the type of day it was...overcast but bright, or just the fact that Spring had finally arrived and the trees were just starting to bud in an array of vibrant colors, but as I passed the Parkman Bandstand, it stopped me in my tracks. The surrounding colors just radiated and gave the rotunda an almost surreal look. I stood their for around 15 minutes just taking in the beauty before moving along...but that image was forever etched in my head.
The Parkman Bandstand or the Boston Common Rotunda (called by most people), sits towards the east end of Boston Common. It was built in 1912 on the old Cow Pond site which has since been filled since grazing cattle became outlawed in the Common.
Today the bandstand is used for small concerts, speeches and rallies.
