Description
Born in the British West Indies in 1757, Hamilton became one of the primary architects of the American government. He served as an aide to Washington during the Revolutionary War, participated in the Continental Congress, signed the Constitution, and was appointed the first Secretary of the Treasury under President Washington. Most importantly, Hamilton helped to secure the future of the new United States by creating a unified economy and a national bank. Hamilton died at the hands of then Vice President Aaron Burr in a gentleman's dual.
The Hamilton statue is one of the oldest statues on Commonwealth Ave. It is also the only stone statue along the Commonwealth Avenue Mall. It was sculpted by William Rimmer in 1865 and is made of New England granite.
