Description
Magnolia trees (Magnolia spp.) bloom in early spring or summer and feature flowers of pink, red, purple or white. About 80 magnolia species and several hundred cultivars grow in U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 5 through 10. Depending on the species, magnolias may be evergreen, semi-evergreen or deciduous. The variety of magnolia growing in your landscape will determine its specific needs but in general, trees require acidic soil, full sun to partial shade and regular watering. Prune evergreen magnolia trees before spring growth and deciduous species just after they bloom.
