Description
The Roseway tall ship sailing in Boston Harbor Massachusetts on a quiet Sunday summer afternoon.
Built at the John F. James & Sons Shipyard in Essex
Massachusetts in 1925, ROSEWAY has had a varied and
distinguished career. From 1925-41 she served in the
famed fishing fleet which operated from Cape Ann ,
Massachusetts, and harvested the catch from the Grand
and Georges Banks in the North Atlantic.
From 1941-1973, ROSEWAY served as a Boston harbor
pilot schooner, during which time she won honors for her
service in WW II as a navigational aid to Allied vessels off
of Boston harbor.
From 1973 to the millennium year of 2000, she was part
of the famed Maine Windjammer Fleet, which offered
vacation sails and cruises off the rugged Maine coast.
And finally, from 2002 to the present she has been owned
and operated by the World Ocean School, and now
operates as an educational platform and a day sailor from
Boston harbor.
